The Justices of the Supreme Court
Back when a woman sitting on the Supreme Court, of the United States of America was a novelty, I made my way to Washington D.C. and into the building which houses the Court, trying to touch a bit of history.
The Court, at the time consisted of the following, from left to right, sitting: Associate Justices Thurgood Marshall, William J. Brennan, Jr., Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, Associate Justices Bryon R. White, and Harry A. Blackmun. Standing, from left to right: Associate Justices Antonin Scalia, John Paul Stevens, Sandra Day O’Connor, and Anthony M. Kennedy.
A Little Bonus
“Two much admired spiral stairways, ascending five stories, are located near side entrances to the Courtroom. they are marble and bronze and are supported only by their overlapping steps and by their extension into the walls. Only two others like this exist — one at the Paris Opera and one at the Vatican.
This picture is the reason I buy post cards. There is no way I would have been able to capture this majestic stair case, thus I gladly parted with a few coins, to own Joseph J. Scherschel’s photograph of the spiral staircase.
